CO2 indicator using KH4 or tank water?
Sep 22nd, 2008 by AnA
I had been using tank water to add into the solution for CO2 indicator. It was normally stated in the instruction manual which come with the CO2 indicator kit (Drop Checker kit). Many aquarium’s forum-er claimed that it will be much more accurate if we were to use a prepared KH4 distilled water as mixture for the CO2 indicator. I had tried and indeed KH4 is more accurate.
Please refered to the picture above as I explain. Noticed that the left CO2 indicator shows blue and the one on the right is showing yellow. I actually did not inject much CO2 … only injected 1 bubble in every 4 seconds. With my tank size of 4ft x 3ft x 2ft; it is definitely not enough CO2 based on the amount of injection. When I started to increase the amount of CO2 injection; the one with KH4 distilled water solution on the left started to change to green. Whereas, the one on the right with tank water still show the same yellow. This concluded that using KH4 distilled water is more accurate as it change colour accordingly but the one using the tank water did not. Enjoys and Cheers!
