Diamond Wind Up Clock
Mar 17th, 2008 by AnA
Last week, I had passed by an antique shop after a lunch break. For whatever reason, I was drawn into that shop. It was a small antique shop and nothing really catch my eyes. In my mind, I was actually looking for decent vintage tuner. But, this shop do not carry those.
On my way out of the shop, I saw an old Diamond Wind Up Clock. It had attracted me and it reminded me of my younger days. Yes, this was the clock I used to play with during those days. Without delay, I picked it up and took a closer look. While my friends were waiting outside the shop; it did not take long for me to put the Diamond clock back to where it belongs. I left the shop without getting it or asking for the price.
When back to office; the image of that clock was still deep in my mind. I asked myself…”How much could that Diamond Wind Up Clock be?”. Anyway, I have decided to visit that antique shop again after work. At the mean time, I did some research on this clock over the web. After some browsing, I had found someone locally selling the same clock in yahoo’s auction. It was brand new; which means current production by Diamond in Shanghai China. Since it was brand new as compare to the one in the antique shop, I had decided to get 2 pieces. One is the usual design for myself and another one which has the Comet and Stars for my sons. It cost me S$15 each.
After work, it was raining heavily and that rain had stopped my visit to the antique shop to find out the price of that old piece of treasure. Nevertheless, I visited the shop on the following day and surprise to find out that it only S$5. Immediately, I grab it. Now, I have total of 3 pieces of these Diamond Wind Up Clock in my possession.
As a proud owner of these Diamond Wind Up Clocks. I am honor to have a chance to look at current and previous production “master piece”. After some observations, notices that the older one are far more superior. The overall workmanship and materials used are much better than the ones in the current production. Below are some pictures of the current and old clocks for comparison. Enjoys!
My collections…
These two clocks are of the same design. The one on the left is current production (15 Feb 2006) and the other one on the right is older production.
Notice the “+ -” adjustment for the compensation of clock speed is different.
The clock feet also looks different. The older production seem more well made.
The winding “butterfly knob” also looks different. The older one has dots and the new one has smooth surface.
The print for newer one is “SHANHAI CHINA” and the older one is “MADE IN CHINA”.
The other design with Comet and Stars for my sons.
