Shorten Watch Metal Bracelet
Apr 1st, 2008 by AnA
Today, I put my newly purchased beloved watch in my shirt’s pocket and accompanied me to work. I could not wear it as the metal bracelet is too long for me. I had tried to browse the web and forums on how to shorten the bracelet but many seem to recommend to go to the watches shop for assistance. Here is my question, is it possible to shorten the bracelet ourselves?
Previously, for my old watches bracelet, I have noticed one arrow mark on the last few metal bracelet portions and also a small holes for you to insert a pin pusher. But for my watch, there is no small holes on the bracelet. So, without this small hole…wondering how to shorten the bracelet without damage anything? Any idea?
Without much confidence, I decided not to DIY but to let the expert shorten my watch bracelet. Luckily, I asked around and I went to the correct shop to get my bracelet shorten.
The first shop I went claimed that they could not do it without scratching the bracelet. Few other shops said the same thing. Finally, I went to a shop that could do it without any scratches. Obviously, I let this shop do it. And true enough no scratches. The watch expert hold the bracelet side way and rested on a metal fixture with many holes. He then used a robust pointed tools with a metal watch hammer to push out the solid pin in the direction indicated by the arrow. To put it back after shortening, he just used the hammer to hammer the solid pin back into position flushed with the bracelet
BTW, all shops charges for the bracelet shorten is the same; S$3. It looks simple enough. Next time, I will purchase those relevant Watches repair tools and DIY for sure. Cheers!
